3.9.1 Upanishadic seer

annaṃ bahu kurvīta | tadavratam | pṛthivī vā annam | ākāśo'nnādaḥ | pṛthivyāmākāśaḥ pratiṣṭhitaḥ | ākāśe pṛthivī pratiṣṭhitā | tadetadannamanne pratiṣṭhitam | sa ya etadannamanne pratiṣṭhitaṃ veda pratitiṣṭhati | annavānannādo bhavati | mahānbhavati prajayā paśubhirbrahmavarcasena | mahānkīrtyā ||

Make food plentiful; that is the vow. Earth indeed is food; space is the eater of food. Space rests on the earth; the earth rests in space. So this food rests on food. One who knows that food rests on food becomes firmly established. He has food and enjoys food; he becomes great in children, cattle and the radiance of sacred knowledge; great in fame.

Meaning today and context

Spiritual knowledge here does not lead away from work; it asks us to produce plenty, to grow, earn and provide, so that there is enough to share. Abundance is a duty when it feeds others.

Taittiriya 3.9.1: the third vow about food: make food plentiful. Earth and space rest on each other, as food and its eater.
