Ashtavakra Gita 1.6

1.6 Ashtavakra to Janaka

Right and wrong, pleasure and pain belong to the mind, not to you, all-pervading one. You are not the doer, nor the enjoyer; you are ever free.

This does not mean right and wrong don't matter in daily life. You remain responsible for how you treat others; the verse is about the deepest Self, not a licence for harm.

Meaning today and context

Pleasure and pain, guilt and pride rise and fall in the mind. You can feel them fully without believing they are the whole of you, and that gives room to breathe.

Ashtavakra tells Janaka that merit and demerit, pleasure and pain belong to the mind, not to the Self, which neither acts nor enjoys.
