Ashtavakra Gita 12.2

12.2 Janaka to Ashtavakra

prītyabhāvena śabdāderadṛśyatvena cātmanaḥ | vikṣepaikāgrahṛdaya evamevāhamāsthitaḥ ||

Since there is no delight in sound and the other sense objects, and since the Self is not an object to be seen, my heart is free of distraction and gathered in one; that is how I remain.

Meaning today and context

When outer things no longer pull at us, and we stop hunting for the Self as if it were an object, the mind stops scattering on its own.

Janaka, describing his own realisation to his teacher Ashtavakra, explains how he has come to rest: sense pleasures no longer attract him, and the Self is not something to be seen.
