Ashtavakra Gita 15.16

15.16 Ashtavakra to Janaka

tavaivājñānato viśvaṃ tvamekaḥ paramārthataḥ | tvatto'nyo nāsti saṃsārī nāsaṃsārī ca kaścana ||

Through your ignorance alone the world exists; in truth you alone are. Other than you there is no one caught in samsara, nor anyone free of it.

A teaching about the Self, not a denial of other people's reality or needs; it is not a reason to stop caring for others.

Meaning today and context

The verse points beyond the split between 'me' and 'the world out there'. Taken honestly, it invites humility about how much of our trouble is in how we see.

Ashtavakra resumes teaching Janaka: the world appears through your own ignorance; in truth you alone are, with no one else bound or free.
