Ashtavakra Gita 18.35

18.35 Ashtavakra to Janaka

śuddhaṃ buddhaṃ priyaṃ pūrṇaṃ niṣprapañcaṃ nirāmayam | ātmānaṃ taṃ na jānanti tatrābhyāsaparā janāḥ ||

People bent on practice do not know that Self, which is pure, awake, dear, complete, beyond all multiplicity and free of affliction.

The verse speaks of the goal, not against useful practice; meditation, therapy or treatment that helps someone should not be dropped because of it.

Technique can become a way of chasing what is already present. The verse reminds us that the Self is not something manufactured by method.

Ashtavakra teaches Janaka in the final chapter on peace (shanti): he says those devoted to practice do not know the Self: pure, awake, beloved, complete, beyond the world's spread, untroubled.
