Ashtavakra Gita 18.70

18.70 Ashtavakra to Janaka

bhramabhūtamidaṃ sarvaṃ kiṃcinnāstīti niścayī | alakṣyasphuraṇaḥ śuddhaḥ svabhāvenaiva śāmyati ||

Firmly convinced that 'all this is born of error; nothing at all really is', the pure one, whose radiance cannot be pointed to, becomes peaceful by his own nature.

Calling the world an illusion is a teaching about identity, not a reason to stop caring for your body, family, work or treatment.

Meaning today and context

This is not a claim that your life or people do not matter. It points out that the dramas that torment us are often built from misreading; seeing that, peace comes without effort.

Ashtavakra, continuing his final teaching to Janaka on the person of steady wisdom, says that one firmly convinced that all this is a mistaken appearance becomes peaceful by his very nature.
