2.23 Janaka to Ashtavakra

aho bhuvanakallolairvicitrairdrāksamutthitam | mayyanantamahāmbhodhau cittavāte samudyate ||

Oh! In me, the boundless ocean, when the wind of the mind rises, at once the many waves of worlds spring up.

Meaning today and context

A single stir of the mind can raise whole worlds of worry and plans. Seeing this happen, rather than being swept along, is the beginning of calm.

Janaka, newly awakened by Ashtavakra's teaching, pictures himself as a boundless ocean: when the wind of the mind rises, waves of worlds suddenly spring up in him.
