9.7 Ashtavakra to Janaka

paśya bhūtavikārāṃstvaṃ bhūtamātrānyathārthataḥ | tatkṣaṇādbandhanirmuktaḥ svarūpastho bhaviṣyasi ||

See the transformations of the elements as truly nothing but the elements; at that very moment you will be released from bondage and established in your own nature.

Meaning today and context

Bodies, things and circumstances are changing forms of the same stuff. Seeing them as they are, not as threats or prizes, brings you back to yourself.

Ashtavakra teaches disenchantment (nirveda): see the changing forms of the elements as nothing but the elements, and at once you are free and rest in your own nature.
