Avadhuta Gita 1.26

1.26 Dattatreya

In the Self, by the Self, all is filled by you without a break. Meditator, meditation and mind are not yours; how can you shamelessly go on meditating?

Not a reason to give up meditation or spiritual discipline; for most people practice remains essential.

Meaning today and context

A teasing, almost scolding line: treating your own self as something far away to be meditated on is a kind of forgetfulness. It describes the state of one already free, not advice for a beginner to stop practising.

Dattātreya the Avadhūta says everything is filled by the listener's Self, so there is no separate meditator, meditation or mind, and asks how one can unabashedly go on 'meditating'.
