Avadhuta Gita 2.33

2.33 Dattatreya

na śāmbhavaṃ śāktikamānavaṃ na vā piṇḍaṃ ca rūpaṃ ca padādikaṃ na vā | ārambhaniṣpattighaṭādikaṃ ca no tamīśamātmānamupaiti śāśvatam ||

Where there is no Śāmbhava, Śākta or Mānava way, no meditation on the body-centre, on form, on the word and so on, and no stages of beginning, the vessel, completion and the rest: that Lord, the eternal Self, he reaches.

These verses describe the state of one already free; they are not a licence to drop ethics, practice, or care for one's body, family, work or treatment.

Meaning today and context

Systems and stages of practice are maps, not the territory. They can help, but the Self they aim at is not one more stage to collect.

Dattatreya names specific yogic and tantric systems as not found in the Self: the Śāmbhava, Śākta and Āṇava (here 'Mānava') ways, the meditations on piṇḍa, pada and rūpa, and the haṭha-yoga stages of ārambha, ghaṭa and niṣpatti.
