Avadhuta Gita 3.15

3.15 Dattatreya

santāpaduḥkhajanako na vidhiḥ kadācitsantāpayogajanitaṃ na manaḥ kadācit | yasmādahaṅkṛtiriyaṃ na ca me kadācitjñānāmṛtaṃ samarasaṃ gaganopamo'ham ||

Fate is never the cause of anguish and sorrow for me; my mind is never born of contact with anguish; because this sense of 'I' is never mine. I am the nectar of knowledge, the same throughout, like the sky.

Meaning today and context

Much of our suffering is held by the 'I' that takes everything personally. Where that sense loosens, even hard luck stings less.

Dattatreya says fate never brings him anguish and no mind of his is born of suffering, because the ego-sense is not his.
