The supreme reality is free of division and non-division; with no inside or outside, how could it be described? It did not arise before, it is not something enjoyed, it is not a thing at all. I am the nectar of knowledge, the same throughout, like the sky.
Meaning today and context
We look for the self as an object, inside us somewhere. The verse says it is not a thing in any place; that can end a restless searching.
Dattatreya says the supreme reality is neither divided nor undivided, has no inside or outside, and was never born as a thing.
