If the three states are not, how can there be a fourth? If the three times are not, how the directions? The supreme reality is the peaceful, highest state. I am the nectar of knowledge, the same throughout, like the sky.
Meaning today and context
Turiya, 'the fourth', is not one more experience to collect. It is the peace that waking, dreaming and sleep all appear in.
Dattatreya argues that if the three states (waking, dream, sleep) do not exist, neither does a 'fourth'; nor do directions if time is not.
