Avadhuta Gita 3.28

3.28 Dattatreya

sandhyādikālarahitaṃ na ca me viyogohyantaḥ prabodharahitaṃ badhiro na mūkaḥ | evaṃ vikalparahitaṃ na ca bhāvaśuddhaṃ jñānāmṛtaṃ samarasaṃ gaganopamo'ham ||

Free of the twilight hours and other set times, I am never separated; free of inner awakening, I am neither deaf nor dumb. Thus free of all constructs, not even 'pure in feeling'. I am the nectar of knowledge, the same throughout, like the sky.

This describes the state of one already free, not a licence to drop ethics, practice, or care for body, family and work.

Meaning today and context

Rituals at fixed times help many people; the verse says the Self is never cut off and does not wait for the right hour. It describes the freed state, not a reason to scorn practice.

Dattatreya says he is beyond the twilight hours and other set times of ritual, never separated, free of mental constructs.
