Why do you weep, friend? No form is yours. Why do you weep, friend? No disfigurement is yours. Why do you weep, friend? No stages of life are yours. I am the nectar of knowledge, the same throughout, like the sky.
Not a reason to neglect health or to look down on one's body; if body image causes distress, seek support (Tele-MANAS 14416).
Meaning today and context
We grieve over looks fading, illness changing the body, years passing. Your deepest self is not your appearance or your age; this can soften the pain of a changing body.
Dattatreya continues: why weep, friend, when no form, no disfigurement, no age belongs to you?
