Avadhuta Gita 5.13

5.13 Dattatreya

iha bhāvavibhāvavihīna iti iha kāmavikāmavihīna iti | iha bodhatamaṃ khalu mokṣasamaṃ kimu rodiṣi mānasi sarvasamam ||

Here it is without being and non-being; here it is without desire and desirelessness; here, surely, is the highest knowing, the same as liberation. Why do you weep, O mind? All is one and the same.

Meaning today and context

Even trying hard to have no desires is another desire. Freedom is the knowing that rests beyond both wanting and not-wanting.

In chapter 5, Dattatreya speaks to his own mind with the refrain 'why do you weep?'; he says reality is without being and non-being, desire and desirelessness: it is the fullest knowing, equal to liberation.
