Bhagavad Gita 10.27

10.27 Krishna to Arjuna

uccaiḥśravasamaśvānāṃ viddhi māmamṛtodbhavam | airāvataṃ gajendrāṇāṃ narāṇāṃ ca narādhipam ||

Among horses know me as Uchchaihshravas, born of the nectar; among lordly elephants, Airavata; and among men, the king.

Not a claim that rulers or those in power are divine or beyond question. In the Gita, authority is judged by whether it serves dharma.

Meaning today and context

In the Gita's world the king stood for order and protection among people; the verse names the role, not any particular ruler.

Krishna names himself among horses, elephants and men.
