Bhagavad Gita 10.36

10.36 Krishna to Arjuna

dyūtaṃ chalayatāmasmi tejastejasvināmaham | jayo'smi vyavasāyo'smi sattvaṃ sattvavatāmaham ||

Of those who deceive I am the gambling; I am the splendour of the splendid. I am victory, I am resolve, I am the goodness of the good.

This is not approval of gambling, cheating or deceit. It names the most powerful thing in each class; the Mahabharata itself shows the ruin a dice game brought. If gambling is a problem for you or someone close, please seek help.

Meaning today and context

The point is that whatever is strongest in its own kind shows a power that comes from the source, even in a crooked field. Victory, resolve and goodness are the parts to cultivate.

Krishna names himself as the gambling of cheats, and as the splendour, victory, resolve and goodness of those who have them.
