Drona, Bhishma, Jayadratha, Karna and the other great warriors are already slain by me. Slay them; do not be distressed. Fight, and you will conquer your rivals in battle.
Krishna speaks to a warrior in a war that, in the epic, could no longer be avoided. Never use this verse to justify violence, or to see yourself as an instrument of destruction against anyone. Its lasting lesson is humility: do not claim as your own what was set in motion by far larger forces.

Krishna names the great warriors Arjuna fears most and tells him not to be afraid: they are already slain, and he will win.
