Bhagavad Gita 14.14

14.14 Krishna to Arjuna

yadā sattve pravṛddhe tu pralayaṃ yāti dehabhṛt | tadottamavidāṃ lokānamalānpratipadyate ||

If the embodied one meets dissolution when sattva is predominant, then one attains the pure worlds of those who know the highest.

If you are grieving, this verse is not a judgement on how your loved one died or where they went. Grief is natural; the verse does not ask you to set it aside.

Meaning today and context

The verse says the quality of our inner life matters, even to the very end. Cultivating clarity is never wasted.

Krishna begins describing what follows death according to the dominant guṇa: one who dies when sattva prevails reaches the pure worlds of the knowers of the highest.
