Bhagavad Gita 14.15

14.15 Krishna to Arjuna

rajasi pralayaṃ gatvā karmasaṅgiṣu jāyate | tathā pralīnastamasi mūḍhayoniṣu jāyate ||

Meeting death in rajas, one is born among those attached to action; likewise, dying in tamas, one is born in the wombs of the deluded.

Not a statement about any person who has died. Do not use it to judge a loved one, or to frighten anyone. Grief comes first; the verse does not dismiss mourning.

Meaning today and context

Within the Gita's framework, the tendencies we strengthen shape where we go next. Today, the practical point is that habits of mind carry forward; we become what we repeat.

Krishna continues: dying in rajas, one is born among those attached to action; dying in tamas, one is born in deluded wombs.
