Bhagavad Gita 14.20

14.20 Krishna to Arjuna

guṇānetānatītya trīndehī dehasamudbhavān | janmamṛtyujarāduḥkhairvimukto'mṛtamaśnute ||

Going beyond these three guṇas from which the body arises, the embodied one, freed from birth, death, old age and sorrow, attains immortality.

Meaning today and context

Ageing and loss touch everyone. The verse points to a freedom within, not by escaping these but by no longer being defined by them.

Krishna says the embodied one who transcends the three guṇas, from which the body arises, is freed from birth, death, old age and sorrow, and attains immortality.
