Bhagavad Gita 14.24

14.24 Krishna to Arjuna

samaduḥkhasukhaḥ svasthaḥ samaloṣṭāśmakāñcanaḥ | tulyapriyāpriyo dhīrastulyanindātmasaṃstutiḥ ||

The same in pain and pleasure, self-abiding, regarding a clod, a stone and gold alike, the same toward the pleasant and the unpleasant, steadfast, the same in blame and praise of oneself...

Seeing gold and clay alike is an inner attitude, not advice to neglect your finances or your family's needs.

Meaning today and context

When praise lifts us and criticism crushes us, others hold the controls. Equanimity means your sense of worth rests on something steadier than the day's feedback.

Krishna describes the one beyond the guṇas: same in pain and pleasure, self-abiding, seeing clay, stone and gold alike, steady amid the pleasant and unpleasant, praise and blame.
