Bhagavad Gita 16.21

16.21 Krishna to Arjuna

trividhaṃ narakasyedaṃ dvāraṃ nāśanamātmanaḥ | kāmaḥ krodhastathā lobhastasmādetattrayaṃ tyajet ||

This threefold gate of hell destroys the self: desire, anger and greed. Therefore one should abandon these three.

Meaning today and context

Lust, anger and greed are the doorways through which most self-destruction enters: broken relationships, regretted words, dishonest choices. Watching these three in yourself protects everything else.

Krishna names the three gates to hell that destroy the self: desire, anger and greed, and says they must be given up.
