viṣayendriyasaṃyogādyattadagre'mṛtopamam | pariṇāme viṣamiva tatsukhaṃ rājasaṃ smṛtam ||

That which arises from contact of the senses with their objects, like nectar at first and like poison in the end: that happiness is held to be rajasic.

This verse is not a condemnation of pleasure or of people struggling with addiction. Addiction is a health condition; if you are struggling, please seek professional help (Tele-MANAS 14416).

Meaning today and context

Endless scrolling, binge-eating, drinking, impulse buying: they feel wonderful in the moment and leave us worse off afterwards. Noticing that pattern is the start of choosing differently.

Krishna defines rajasic happiness: arising from contact of the senses with their objects, like nectar at first and like poison in the end.
