Bhagavad Gita 7.12

7.12 Krishna to Arjuna

ye caiva sāttvikā bhāvā rājasāstāmasāśca ye | matta eveti tānviddhi na tvahaṃ teṣu te mayi ||

Whatever states there are, of sattva, of rajas and of tamas, know that they come from me alone. Yet I am not in them; they are in me.

Meaning today and context

Calm, restlessness and dullness all come and go, but they need not own us. What is deepest in us is not under their control.

Krishna says all states of the three gunas come from him, yet he is not in them; they are in him.
