3.7.13 Yajnavalkya to Uddalaka Aruni

yastamasi tiṣṭhaṃstamaso'ntaro yaṃ tamo na veda yasya tamaḥ śarīraṃ yastamo'ntaro yamayatyeṣa ta ātmāntaryāmyamṛtaḥ ||

He who dwells in darkness yet is other than darkness, whom darkness does not know, whose body darkness is, who controls darkness from within: he is your self, the inner controller, the immortal.

The same refrain, now for darkness: what rules a thing from within is not known by that thing. Repeating it across all of nature, the text widens the sense of self until it includes everything.

Brihadaranyaka 3.7.13. Yajnavalkya continues the refrain of the inner controller for Uddalaka Aruni, now naming darkness.
