3.7.23 Yajnavalkya to Uddalaka Aruni

He who dwells in semen yet is other than semen, whom semen does not know, whose body semen is, who controls semen from within: he is your self, the inner controller, the immortal. He is the unseen seer, the unheard hearer, the unthought thinker, the unknown knower. There is no other seer than he, no other hearer than he, no other thinker than he, no other knower than he. He is your self, the inner controller, the immortal. Everything other than him is afflicted. Thereupon Uddalaka Aruni fell silent.

Meaning today and context

You can never make the one who sees into a thing you look at; it is always the seer. Everything you can observe, including your moods and troubles, comes and goes; the awareness that observes them is not hurt by them. That is a place of steadiness, not an escape from life.

Brihadaranyaka 3.7.23. Yajnavalkya completes the list with semen (the power of procreation) and sums up the inner controller for Uddalaka Aruni, who then falls silent.
