After enjoying himself and roaming in this state of deep serenity, and only having seen good and evil, he hurries back the same way he came, to the place he came from, to dream. Whatever he sees there does not follow him, for this person is unattached. [Janaka:] 'That is so, Yajnavalkya. I give you, sir, a thousand. Tell me what lies beyond this, for liberation itself.'

Meaning today and context

What we witness, good or bad, does not have to stick to us. At our core we are unattached, like a screen that shows a film without being burnt by its fires.

Brihadaranyaka 4.3.15: Yajnavalkya says that after deep, serene sleep the self returns to dream untouched by whatever it saw, because this person is unattached (asanga). Janaka offers a thousand cows and asks for more.
