As a falcon or an eagle, having flown about in the sky, grows tired, folds its wings and is borne down to its nest, so this person hurries to that state where, asleep, he desires no desire and sees no dream.
Meaning today and context
After all our striving, we long for a rest where nothing is wanted. Deep sleep gives a taste of it each night: peace comes when desire is stilled, not when it is fulfilled.
Brihadaranyaka 4.3.19: the simile of the tired falcon: as a bird folds its wings and glides to its nest, the self hurries to dreamless sleep, where it desires nothing and sees no dream.
