Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 4.4.14

4.4.14 Yajnavalkya to Janaka

ihaiva santo'tha vidmastadvayaṃ na cedavedirmahatī vinaṣṭiḥ | ye tadviduramṛtāste bhavantyathetare duḥkhamevāpiyanti ||

While we are still here, we may come to know it. If you have not known it, great is the loss. Those who know it become immortal; the rest only go on to sorrow.

Meaning today and context

The time to look inward is now, not some later life or retirement. Putting off the deepest questions is the real loss.

Brihadaranyaka 4.4.14. A verse urging that this knowledge be gained in this life, while one is still here.
