As the ocean is the one meeting place of all waters, so the skin is the one meeting place of all touches, the nostrils of all smells, the tongue of all tastes, the eye of all forms, the ear of all sounds, the mind of all intentions, the heart of all knowledge, the hands of all actions, the sexual organ of all pleasures, the anus of all excretions, the feet of all journeys, and speech of all the Vedas.

Meaning today and context

Our many experiences gather in a few channels, and those in turn in the one who experiences. Noticing where things meet in us helps us see the one beneath the many.

Brihadaranyaka 2.4.11. Yajnavalkya shows Maitreyi how each kind of experience has one meeting point in a sense or faculty, as all waters meet in the ocean.
