Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 2.4.4

2.4.4 Yajnavalkya to Maitreyi

sa hovāca yājñavalkyaḥ priyā batāre naḥ satī priyaṃ bhāṣase | ehyāssva | vyākhyāsyāmi te | vyācakṣāṇasya tu me nididhyāsasveti ||

Yajnavalkya said: 'You have always been dear to us, and now you say what is dear. Come, sit down. I will explain it to you; and as I explain, meditate on it deeply.'

Meaning today and context

Real learning needs more than listening: it needs sitting with what is said and turning it over until it becomes one's own.

Brihadaranyaka 2.4.4. Yajnavalkya, pleased with Maitreyi's choice, agrees to teach her and asks her to reflect deeply as he explains.
