'Yajnavalkya,' he said, 'since this mid-space is, as it were, without a foothold, by what ladder does the sacrificer climb to the heavenly world?' 'By the brahman priest, by the mind, by the moon. The mind is the brahman of the sacrifice. This mind is that moon; it is the brahman; it is freedom, it is full freedom.' These are the liberations. Now the correspondences.
Meaning today and context
When there is nothing to stand on, the mind itself becomes the ladder. A steady, rightly directed mind can carry us where nothing outside can.
Brihadaranyaka 3.1.6. Ashvala, Janaka's hotri priest, asks (the question is his) and Yajnavalkya answers: since the mid-space has no foothold, by what does the sacrificer climb to heaven? By the mind, which is the moon and the brahman priest. This closes the 'liberations'; the 'correspondences' follow.
