Brihadaranyaka Upanishad 3.2.7

3.2.7 Yajnavalkya to Artabhaga

mano vai grahaḥ | sa kāmenātigraheṇa gṛhītaḥ | manasā hi kāmānkāmayate ||

The mind is a grasper. It is gripped by desire, the over-grasper; for it is by the mind that one desires desires.

Meaning today and context

The mind reaches for what it wants and is then held captive by that wanting. Seeing this loop clearly is the first step to loosening it.

Brihadaranyaka 3.2.7. Yajnavalkya answers Artabhaga: the mind is a 'grasper' (graha), and it is itself gripped by desire, the 'over-grasper' (atigraha).
