Whatever desires are hard to win in the world of mortals, ask for them all as you please. Here are lovely women with chariots and music; such as these are not to be had by men. Be waited on by them, my gift to you. But, Naciketas, do not ask about death.
The women here are offered as an object of pleasure in an ancient test; this reflects its time. The point is about one's own craving, and the verse must never be used to treat women as rewards or possessions.

Yama's last temptation: any desire hard to get among mortals, including heavenly women with chariots and music, if only Naciketas will stop asking about death.
