Meaning today and context

A child's persistent, honest question provokes a parent's angry words, and those words have consequences. It is a reminder of how much weight words spoken in anger can carry.

The narrator: Naciketas asks his father to whom he will give him, since a son too is a possession. He asks a second and third time, and the father, angered, replies, 'To Death I give you!'
