1.3.14 Yama to Nachiketa

uttiṣṭhata jāgrata prāpya varānnibodhata | kṣurasya dhārā niśitā duratyayā durgaṃ pathastatkavayo vadanti ||

Arise! Awake! Having found the best teachers, learn. Sharp as a razor's edge, hard to cross: that is how difficult the path is, say the wise.

Meaning today and context

Don't drift through life half-asleep. Seek out people who truly know, and learn. The path to anything real is narrow and demanding, and that is no reason to give up; it is a reason to stay alert.

Yama's ringing call to Naciketas, and to all seekers: rise, wake up, and learn from the best teachers, for the path is as hard as a razor's edge.
