oṃ ityetadakṣaramidaṃ sarvaṃ tasyopavyākhyānaṃ bhūtaṃ bhavadbhaviṣyaditi sarvamoṃkāra eva | yaccānyattrikālātītaṃ tadapyoṃkāra eva ||
Om: this syllable is all this. Its explanation follows. What has been, what is and what will be: all of it is Om alone. And whatever else lies beyond the three times, that too is Om alone.

Om here is not just a sound to chant; it stands for the whole of what is, in time and beyond it. Sitting with Om can be a way of turning the mind from scattered parts to the whole.
The opening mantra of the Mandukya Upanishad: the seer declares that the syllable Om is all that exists, in every time and beyond time.
