1.77 Narada

sukhaduḥkhecchālābhādityakte kāle pratīkṣamāṇe kṣaṇārddhamapi vyarthaṃ na neyam ||

Waiting for a time free of pleasure, pain, desire, gain and the like, one should not let even half a moment go to waste.

Meaning today and context

There will never be a perfect, trouble-free moment to start. Don't postpone what matters until life calms down; begin now, in the middle of it.

Narada warns against wasting time: no one should sit waiting for a time free of pleasure, pain, desire and gain. Our print has the active pratīkṣamāṇe ('while waiting'); the common text the passive pratīkṣyamāṇe, with little change in sense.
