Only here and there is the earth adorned by people who are poor in harsh words and rich in kind ones, content with their own spouse, and who refrain from speaking ill of others.

Meaning today and context

Be rich in kind words and poor in harsh ones, faithful in your relationship, and stay out of gossip. Such people are rare, and they make the world better.

Bhartrihari says the people who truly adorn the world are rare: kind in speech, faithful, and free of gossip.
