guṇavadaguṇavadvā kurvatā kārya-jātaṃ | pariṇatiravadhāryā yatnataḥ paṇḍitena | atirabhasa-kṛtānāṃ karmaṇāmāvipatter | bhavati hṛdaya-dāhī śalya-tulyo vipākaḥ ||

Whether the task one undertakes is good or not, a wise person should carefully consider how it will turn out. The result of deeds done in too much haste burns the heart like a thorn, right up to one's last calamity.

Decisions made in a rush, especially in anger or excitement, can leave regret that lasts for years. Pause and think about where an action will lead before you take it.

Bhartrihari warns against acting in haste: think through the outcome before any work.
