मासो वै प्रजापतिः । तस्य कृष्णपक्ष एव रयिः शुक्लः प्राणः । तस्मादेत ऋषयः शुक्ल इष्टं कुर्वन्तीतर इतरस्मिन् ॥
māso vai prajāpatiḥ | tasya kṛṣṇapakṣa eva rayiḥ śuklaḥ prāṇaḥ | tasmādeta ṛṣayaḥ śukla iṣṭaṃ kurvantītara itarasmin ||
"The month is Prajāpati. Its dark half is matter (rayi), its bright half life (prāṇa). Therefore these sages perform their sacrifice in the bright half; others in the other."
