I yoke with homage the ancient prayer that is yours; let my verse go forth like the path of the sun. Let all the sons of the immortal hear, those who have risen to the heavenly realms.

'Children of immortality' is how the Upanishad addresses its hearers. Whatever we feel about ourselves, the teaching begins by calling us heirs of something deathless.
The second chapter of the Upanishad, taught by the sage Shvetashvatara, opens with Vedic verses to Savitṛ, the impelling sun god, asking him to yoke the mind for meditation. The meditator offers the ancient prayer with homage and calls on all the 'sons of immortality' to hear.
