Shvetashvatara Upanishad 3.12

3.12 Upanishadic seer

mahānprabhurvai puruṣaḥ sattvasyaiṣa pravartakaḥ | sunirmalāmimāṃ prāptimīśāno jyotiravyayaḥ ||

The Person is indeed the great lord, the one who moves the mind (sattva). He is the ruler who leads to this utterly pure attainment, the imperishable light.

Meaning today and context

Even the impulse that turns us toward something purer and better is, in this verse, a gift from beyond ourselves.

In the third chapter Shvetashvatara praises the one Lord, Rudra (Śiva), as ruler of the worlds. He calls the Person the great lord who sets the mind in motion toward the pure attainment.
