Shvetashvatara Upanishad 3.4

3.4 Upanishadic seer

yo devānāṃ prabhavaścodbhavaśca viśvādhipo rudro maharṣiḥ | hiraṇyagarbhaṃ janayāmāsa pūrvaṃ sa no buddhyā śubhayā saṃyunaktu ||

He who is the source and origin of the gods, the lord of all, Rudra, the great seer, who brought forth Hiraṇyagarbha in the beginning: may he join us to a clear and auspicious understanding.

Of all the things one could ask for, the verse asks for good understanding. When choices are hard, a clear and kind mind is the most useful gift.

In the third chapter Shvetashvatara praises the one Lord, Rudra (Śiva), as ruler of the worlds. He prays that Rudra, source of the gods, unite us with a clear and good understanding.
