dve akṣare brahmapare tvanante vidyāvidye nihite yatra gūḍhe | kṣaraṃ tvavidyā hyamṛtaṃ tu vidyā vidyāvidye īśate yastu so'nyaḥ ||
In the imperishable, infinite, supreme Brahman two things lie hidden: knowledge and ignorance. Ignorance is the perishable; knowledge is the immortal. But He who rules over both knowledge and ignorance is another, beyond them.
Meaning today and context
Our knowing and our not-knowing both sit within something larger. Even our confusion is not outside God; and the One who holds both is not limited by either.
The fifth chapter opens with the sage's teaching on knowledge and ignorance, both hidden in the infinite Brahman, and the Lord who rules over both.
