Shvetashvatara Upanishad 5.13

5.13 Upanishadic seer

anādyanantaṃ kalilasya madhye viśvasya sraṣṭāramanekarūpaṃ | viśvasyaikaṃ pariveṣṭitāraṃ jñātvā devaṃ mucyate sarvapāśaiḥ ||

Without beginning and without end, in the midst of the chaos, the creator of everything, of many forms, the one who encircles the whole universe: knowing God, one is freed from all fetters.

Meaning today and context

Freedom comes not from escaping the mess of life but from recognising what holds it. The same God who is behind the chaos is the one who frees us within it.

The sage repeats the refrain: knowing the beginningless, endless creator in the midst of chaos, one is freed from all fetters.
