'He becomes non-existent himself if he knows Brahman as non-existent. If he knows that Brahman is, then people know him as existing.' This [self made of bliss] is the embodied self of the former as well. Now the follow-up questions: Does anyone who does not know, on departing this life, go to that world? Or does anyone who knows, on departing this life, reach that world? He desired: 'May I be many; may I be born.' He performed austerity (tapas). Having performed austerity, he created all this, whatever there is. Having created it, he entered into it. Having entered it, he became both the visible and the beyond, the defined and the undefined, the supported and the unsupported, knowing and unknowing, truth and untruth. As truth he became whatever there is. That is why they call it 'the true'. On this there is also a verse.

Meaning today and context

The source of all did not stay apart from the world; it entered everything it made. So nothing we meet is wholly cut off from what is real, not even what seems vague, confusing or false. How we see that source also shapes who we become.

Taittiriya 2.6.1: the verse on being and non-being, then two follow-up questions (does the knower or the non-knower reach that world after death?), answered by an account of creation: Brahman desired to be many, created all and entered into it.
