3.10.5 Upanishadic seer

sa ya evaṃvit | asmāllokātpretya | etamannamayamātmānamupasaṅkramya | etaṃ prāṇamayamātmānamupasaṅkramya | etaṃ manomayamātmānamupasaṅkramya | etaṃ vijñānamayamātmānamupasaṅkramya | etamānandamayamātmānamupasaṅkramya | imāṃllokankāmānnī kāmarūpyanusañcaran | etatsāma gāyannāste | hā3vu hā3vu hā3vu ||

One who knows this, on departing from this world, having reached this self made of food, this self made of breath, this self made of mind, this self made of understanding, this self made of bliss, roams these worlds eating what he wishes and taking what form he wishes, and sits singing this chant: 'Hā-u! Hā-u! Hā-u!'

'Departing from this world' describes what the knower reaches, not an invitation to think about dying. If you are thinking about death or ending your life, please call Tele-MANAS 14416.

Meaning today and context

Freedom here is not grim or solemn; it ends in song. When a person knows the whole, the natural response is wonder and joy beyond words.

Taittiriya 3.10.5: the knower, having passed through all five sheaths, moves freely through the worlds and sings a wordless chant of joy.
